StarCoast Sky Read ยท 30A sunset and sky grades

What does a good 30A sky actually look like?

The Gulf is warm, humid, and moody. Clouds can be ornery. So I use a simple A, B, C, D, F Sky Read to decide what kind of night we really have.

A and B: public nights run. C and D: private-event judgment nights. F: no-go.

Month by Month

How 30A sunset quality changes through the year.

This is my month-by-month read on how often 30A gets an excellent or very good sunset view. Cooler months usually give better odds. Summer is hotter, stormier, and harder to trust for public nights.

30A monthly excellent or very good sunset view percentage and average perceived sunset temperature
Best public-sky months: October, January, December, November. Toughest public-sky months: July, June, May.
Simple Rules

A/B public. C/D private judgment. F no-go.

Public nights exist for excellent reviews and proof. Private events are usually booked well in advance, so the job is honest expectation-setting and best possible execution.

A ๐ŸŸข

Excellent. Public runs.

B ๐ŸŸข

Very good. Public runs.

C ๐ŸŸ

Mixed. Private only.

D ๐Ÿ”ด

Marginal. Private only.

F ๐Ÿ”ด

Grade A ๐ŸŸข

This is a Grade A Sunset.

This is the kind of night everybody wants. Strong sunset beauty, clean openings, and a real shot at a great public experience.

We run public nights when we project this.

  • Clean
  • Strong
  • Worth going
  • Review-safe public night

Grade B ๐ŸŸข

This is a Grade B Sunset.

Still a good public-night call. Not elite, not perfect, but clearly good enough to go hunting.

We run public nights when we project this.

  • Good night
  • Public-worthy
  • Workable
  • The Gulf still gets a vote

Grade C ๐ŸŸ

This is a Grade C Sunset.

This is where things get mixed. There may be beauty. There may be windows. There may be frustration too.

We run private events on these. We do not use these for public nights.

  • Mixed
  • Window-chasing
  • Private only
  • Not public-review-safe

Grade D ๐Ÿ”ด

This is a marginal sky. You might get a moment. You might get almost nothing.

We run private events on these only when expectations are honest and the event still has value.

  • Marginal
  • Low confidence
  • Private only
  • Public no

Grade F ๐Ÿ”ด

This is a Grade F Sunset.

This is a no-go night. Socked in, stormy, unsafe, or simply not a fair shot.

  • Automatic no
